This research aimed seeks to identify students’ reading comprehension before and after the implementation of the story reading strategy. It also aimed to determine whether the strategy has a significant effect on students’ reading comprehension at Bustanul Qur’an Junior High School. This research employed a pre-experimental study using a one-group pretest– posttest design. The participants were 17 eighth-grade students at Bustanul Qur’an Junior High School. The data were collected through tests administered before and after the treatment. The data were analyzed by a paired sample t-test. The results showed that the mean score of the pretest was 48.82, while the posttest was 82.35. The paired samples t-test revealed a significance value of 0.000, which was lower than 0.05, indicating that the story reading strategy significantly affected students’ reading comprehension. In addition, the effect size was 2.86, indicating a high effect. It could be concluded that the use of the story-reading strategy highly affected students’ reading comprehension. However, the readability level of the text indicates that future studies should consider using reading materials that are more appropriate for junior high school students.
