Year 2024/2025. This study aimed to determine the factors that influenced students' anxiety in foreign language learning in the classroom, as well as to identify
which factors had the most significant influence on the level of anxiety. This
study was motivated by the number of students who showed anxiety when
taking foreign language lessons, which had an impact on their learning
process and results. This research was a quantitative study using a factorial
analysis design. It was conducted at SMAN 3 Pontianak with 165
participants from 11th grade. Data collection techniques included the
Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) questionnaire, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that there were three main factors that influenced
students' anxiety in foreign language learning, namely Communication
Apprehension, Test Anxiety, and Fear of Negative Evaluation. Among the
three factors, Communication Apprehension was found to be the most
significant factor influencing students' anxiety levels. Based on these
findings, it could be concluded that Communication Apprehension was the
dominant factor that caused anxiety in foreign language learning. Therefore, it was important for educators to create a supportive, interactive, and
pressure-free learning atmosphere so that students felt more confident in
communicating using a foreign language.
