This study aimed to determine how the effect of using the riddle game on vocabulary mastery of seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Ella Hilir. The objectives of this study were as follows. The first was to investigate the students’ vocabulary score before the implemented of riddle game. The second to insvestigate how students' vocabulary mastery are after implementing the riddle game. The last was to describe the significant of riddle game on student’s vocabulary mastery.
This study was conducted using quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental research type. Data was collected through pre-test and post-test design. The total sample in this study consisted of 53 students, with 26 students from class VII A and 27 students from class VII B at SMP Negeri 1 Ella Hilir.
The results of this study showed as follow the average pre-test score of students in the control class was 61.25, while the average pre-test score of students in the experimental class was 58.76. In contrast, the average post-test score in the control class was 59.37 while the avarage post-test score in the experimental class was 83.03. The hypothesis test results showed that Sig. 2-tailed 0.00 < 0.05. This research meaning that indicate significant affected the student vocabulary mastery.
