The formulation of the problem in this study is whether the Cake application is effective for improving the pronunciation of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 17 Pontianak academic year 2023/2024. This study aims to determine how the effectiveness of the use of the Cake application by class VIII students at SMP Negeri 17 Pontianak.
This study used a quantitative research type with a quasi-experimental approach. Researchers gave a pre-test to students, and then researchers gave treatment to students using the Cake application. After the treatment, researchers gave a post-test to students. The population in this study were all VIII-grade students at SMP Negeri 17 Pontianak. The samples of this study were VIII E class students totalling 31 students and VIII F class students totalling 32 students.
The results of this study showed that most students obtained better grades after the treatment. The average pre-test score of students in the experimental class was 64.13, while the average post-test score was 79.10. In contrast, the average pre-test score of the control class was 59.25, and the average post-test score was 62.92. It is concluded that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. This means that there is a significant difference in students' pronunciation before and after using the Cake app. This study shows that the Cake app is effective in improving students' pronunciation.
