Comprehension In The Academic Reading Subject. English Tadris Study Program,
Teacher Training And Tarbiyah Faculty, Pontianak State Islamic Institute, 2024.
This study aims to reveal and explain how students’ vocabulary mastery in
the academic reading subject, how students’ reading comprehension in the academic
reading subject, and how students’ vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension in
the academic reading subject.
This research is a qualitative study using a descriptive method with a
qualitative approach, which refers to procedures that produce descriptive data in the
form of written or spoken words. The data sources in this study consist of promary
sources, namely students of English Tadris Study Program, Teacher Training and
Tarbiyah Faculty, Pontianak State Islamic Institute. The data collection techniques
used by the researcher include observation, interviews, and documentation. Data
analysis was conducted using data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing (data
verification), triangulation, and member checks.
The results of this study show that students’ vocabulary mastery in the
Academic Reading Subject is essential. Specially, the importance of vocabulary
mastery in academic reading, the role of learning new words, and the indispensability
of vocabulary mastery for academic reading are highlighted. Additionally, the study
emphasizes students’ reading comprehension in the Academic Reading Subject,
nothing the importance of reading comprehension strategies, the impact of reading
comprehension, and the utilization of these strategies in academic reading. Lastly, the
study finds that both vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension are crucial in the
Academic Reading Subject. It underscores the importance of both, their mutual
enhancement, and the integration of vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension
for academic success.
