Abstract

This study aims to explore the challenges and opportunities in implementing religious moderation policies in Pontianak, Indonesia, in relation to the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4, SDG 5, and SDG 10. This study is important for understanding the contribution of religious moderation in creating an inclusive and peaceful society. A qualitative approach was used through a case study in Pontianak with in-depth interviews and field observations. Data was collected from religious leaders, community leaders, and people from various religious and ethnic backgrounds, and analyzed thematically. The results of the study show that the main challenges include the politicization of policies and conservative groups that view religious moderation as merely passive tolerance. Opportunities are driven by high acceptance among youth and academics, which strengthens social capital. A significant impact is found in the field of education, where religious moderation integration initiatives strengthen tolerance and inclusiveness. Public acceptance varies, indicating critical gaps in interpretation. This study is limited to Pontianak and may not be fully representative of Indonesia as a whole. Data limitations and observation time also affect the depth of analysis. This study makes an important contribution to the development of more inclusive and contextual religious moderation policies in Indonesia, opening up opportunities for further research in other regions with different social conditions.
