dc.description.abstract NUR SELIYANA AVRIANI, A Study on the Use Code Switching in Reducing Speaking Anxiety Among Students of 11th Grade at SMA Kemala Bhayangkari 1 Kubu Raya: English Education Study Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training, State Islamic Institute of Pontianak (IAIN Pontianak). 2025. This research establishes two main objectives: to investigate the role of code switching in reducing English speaking anxiety among 11th grade students, and to identify the causes of speaking anxiety along with the efforts made through code switching to overcome it. This study employs a qualitative research method with a case study design. Data were collected through direct classroom observations and semi-structured interviews with teachers and students as primary data sources, supported by secondary data such as learning documents and interview records. Data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, consisting of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing with verification. The study found that the use of code switching in English language learning plays a significant role in reducing students’ speaking anxiety caused by limited vocabulary, fear of negative evaluation, fear of making mistakes, and pressure during oral tests. Code switching facilitated better comprehension, helped maintain speaking fluency, and provided a sense of security when students struggled to express ideas fully in English. It also enhanced students’ confidence and encouraged more active participation in speaking activities. Findings further indicate that code switching contributes to lowering anxiety across the three dimensions of foreign language speaking anxiety: communication apprehension, fear of negative evaluation, and test anxiety. The results of this study affirm that code switching is an effective communication strategy in senior high school English learning and contributes positively to reducing students’ overall speaking anxiety. en_US
