dc.description.abstract AMINATUN DINNIA, The Effectiveness of Using the Traditional Game Lem-Lem Tak to Improve the Speaking Skills of Fifth Grade Students at MIN 1 Pontianak. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FTIK), English Education Study Program (TBI), State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Pontianak, 2025. The objectives of this study are (1) to identify students' speaking skills before using the traditional game Lem-Lem Tak (pre-test); (2) to identify students' speaking skills after using the game (post-test); (3) to analyze the differences in learning outcomes before and after the intervention; (4) to evaluate the effectiveness of Lem-Lem Tak in improving students' English speaking skills; and (5) to identify the supporting and inhibiting factors that influence the learning process when Lem-Lem Tak is used as a learning medium. This research was motivated by students' low speaking skills due to limited vocabulary, lack of confidence, and monotonous learning methods. To overcome this problem, the researcher applied the traditional Lem-Lem Tak game from Sambas, West Kalimantan, as an active and enjoyable culture-based learning medium. This study employed a pre-experimental approach with a one-group pre-test and post-test design, involving 48 fifth-grade students as samples. The data collection techniques included speaking tests, observation, and documentation. The assessment of speaking ability focused on pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency, and self-confidence. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, and paired sample t-tests with the help of SPSS version 27. The results showed an increase in the mean score from 12.00 in the pre-test to 15.50 in the post-test, with an improvement difference of 3.5 points. The t-test significance value was < 0.001, indicating a significant difference between pre-test and post-test results. Moreover, the Cohen's d value of 1.743 showed a very strong effect on improving students' speaking skills. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the use of the traditional game Lem-Lem Tak is effective in enhancing students' English speaking skills. en_US
