This research investigated the effect of the storybook reading strategy on the students’ text comprehension A study SMP Negeri 5 Tanah Pinoh Barat. The research questions were as follows. First, what was the students’ comprehension before the implementation of the English storybook reading strategy? Second, what was the students’ comprehension after the implementation of the English storybook reading strategy? Third, how effective was the English storybook reading strategy on the students’ comprehension? It was a pre-experimental study with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The research participants were 21 students of seventh grade at SMP Negeri 5 Tanah Pinoh Barat. The data were collected through reading comprehension tests before and after applying the storybook reading strategy. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics to measure the improvement in students’ scores from pre-test to post-test. This study found the following results. First, students' reading comprehension before the treatment had an average score of 69.52, which was below the Minimum Passing Criteria (KKM = 75). Second, after being given treatment with the storybook reading strategy, the average score for students' comprehension increased to 82.14, exceeding the KKM. The results of the paired sample t-test analysis indicate that this strategy has a significant effect on students' text comprehension (p = 0.000; p < 0.05). Furthermore, the effect size analysis shows a Cohen's d value of 2.29 and a correlation coefficient (r) of 0.92, both of which fall into the category of very large effects. These results demonstrate that the storybook reading strategy not only provides statistically significant improvements but also has a strong and practically meaningful impact on enhancing students' reading comprehension. en_US
