THE EFFECT OF GOOGLE SITES AS AN INTERACTIVE LEARNING MEDIA ON VOCABULARY MASTERY OF THE 7th GRADE STUDENTS AT SMP NEGERI 7 PONTIANAK

Abstract

Pontianak State Islamic Institute (IAIN), 2025 This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of Google Sites as an interactive learning medium in improving the vocabulary mastery of 7th grade students at SMP Negeri 7 Pontianak and to analyze the significance of its impact. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was used, involving 75 students divided into two groups: 37 students in class VII A (control group) and 38 students in class VII B (experimental group). The research instruments included a pre-test and post-test consisting of multiple-choice and matching-word questions. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 29. The results showed that students in the experimental class, who were taught using Google Sites, achieved an average pre-test score of 51.45 and a post-test score of 84.21. Meanwhile, the control group’s average score improved from 47.57 to 62.70. The independent samples t-test showed a significant difference between the two groups at a 5% significance level (p < 0.001), with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.801). These findings indicate that Google Sites is an effective and meaningful tool for enhancing students’ vocabulary mastery in English learning.
