This research was to explore the effectiveness of Anagram Word Game as a learning media on students' vocabulary mastery at SMPN 06 Kubu. It questions are as follows. (1) What are the students vocabulary scores before applying the Anagram Word Game? (2) What are the student’s vocabulary scores after applying the Anagram Word Game? (3) How effective is applying the Anagram Word Game on Students’ vocabulary mastery?
This research was a quasi-experimental design with a pre and post-test design. The research participants are 60 students, from class VII A as the experimental group, and class VII B as the control group. Data for this study were collected using tests and interviews. Data was analyzed using an Independent Sample T-test, while qualitative data from interviews were analyzed using Thematic Analysis.
This research found that using the Anagram Word Game in several learning sessions produced significant results. The post-test scores of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group. The improvement in the experimental group indicates that the Anagram Word Game is an effective learning medium to enhance students’ vocabulary mastery. Furthermore, the independent sample t-test analysis results showed a significant value of 0.048, which is lower than 0.05. This indicates a statistically significant improvement in the experimental group. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. In addition, interview analysis revealed that students had positive perceptions of the game. |
