URAI ZAHWA MEISYAHARANI SAPUTRI. 12017054. The Effectiveness of Using Cartoon Movie Media on Students' Speaking Ability in Eighth Grade of MTs Darunnaim Pontianak. English Tadris Study Program, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teaching Sciences, Pontianak State Islamic Institute.
This study aims to assess the effectiveness of using cartoon movie media in improving the speaking ability of eighth grade students at MTs Darunnaim Pontianak. The background of this research is based on the need for English speaking ability which is increasingly important in the era of globalization. Many students have difficulty in speaking English due to their limited vocabulary, accuracy and fluency.
This study used a quasi-experimental method involving two groups of students: an experimental class that used cartoon movie media in the learning process and a control class that used traditional learning methods. Data were collected through speaking tests before and after the intervention.
The results showed that the use of cartoon movie media significantly improved students' speaking ability compared to the conventional method. In the experimental class, the percentage of students who scored ≥ 75 increased from 29.2% in the pre-test to 82.5% in the post-test. In contrast, in the control class, the percentage of students who scored ≥ 75 only increased from 27.5% in the pre-test to 34% in the post-test.
These results show that cartoon movie media can be an effective alternative for teaching English speaking ability. The use of this media not only makes the learning process more interesting but also helps students overcome their fear and lack of confidence in speaking English. Thus, this study makes an important contribution in improving English teaching methods in schools. |
