Since vocabulary is the foundation of efficient communication and the development of other language skills, it is essential to teach when learning a foreign language. Poor vocabulary learning results from traditional techniques of vocabulary training, which frequently fail to engage students. To solve this problem, this research explores how well second-semester English Tadris Study Program students at IAIN Pontianak can improve their vocabulary using English versions of LINE Webtoon comics as a teaching tool.
There were 44 students in this research who were split into an experimental group and a control group using a quasi-experimental approach. Traditional training was given to the control group, whereas the experimental group used LINE Webtoon comics. Pre- and post-tests assessed vocabulary growth, and the questionnaire collected opinions about the teaching method from the students. The experimental group showed significant progress in vocabulary, as seen by the mean post-test scores rising from 46.05 to 77.68. The inefficiency of the conventional approach was demonstrated by the control group's scores, which stayed mostly unchanged.
The findings demonstrated that students thought LINE Webtoon cartoons were a fun and useful way to learn new words. The experimental group's results significantly improved, indicating that using digital comics can improve vocabulary acquisition and increase the enjoyment of learning. The adoption of LINE Webtoon comics as a useful tool for English as a Foreign Language instruction is advised by this study since they offer a creative solution to the problems associated with conventional vocabulary teaching techniques. |
