The purpose of this research was to determine whether the use of the Duolingo application in learning English could improve students' speaking skills at MTs Al-Ma'arif NU Pontianak.
This research focused on a pre-experimental design with one class undergoing a pre-test and post-test. In the other words, this research took measurement as a data collection technique with tests as the instruments. The population of this research comprised 87 students in Class IX at MTs Al-Ma'arif NU Pontianak in the academic year 2023/2024. The study selected one class IXB based on a cluster random sampling technique as the research sample consisting of 29 students. The data were obtained from a speaking ability test, which involved reading aloud sentences pre-test and post-test.
The results of this research indicated that the use of Duolingo application insignificantly improve students speaking skill in terms of pronunciation and fluency after doing a reading aloud test. The value 0.00<0.05 was to prove that the Duolingo application was insignificat to improve students’ scores. The following were to descsribe students’ score before and after taking test.
1. the average score of students’ pre-test was 72.00.
2. The average scores of students’ post-test was 77.93 |
