NURHASANI, Exploration of English Teachers’ Self-Efficacy at MTs TI
Al-Madani Pontianak: A Case Study. Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher
Training (FTIK), English Tadris Study Program (TBI) State Islamic Institute
(IAIN) of Pontianak 2024.
This study aims to: 1) To explore how English teachers’ efficacy for
classroom management at MTs TI Al-Madani Pontianak. 2) To explore how
English teachers’ efficacy for student engagement at MTs TI Al-Madani
Pontianak. 3) To explore how English teachers’ efficacy for instructional
strategies at MTs TI Al-Madani Pontianak.
This research used qualitative method with case study approach. The
data collection techniques used were structured interviews, observations, and
documentation. Data analysis techniques used were data reduction, data
display, and drawing conclusion. Data validity checking techniques use
triangulation.
Based on the results of the data that has been analyzed, it can
concluded that: 1) English teachers’ self-efficacy for classroom management
at MTs TI Al-Madani Pontianak includes three aspects: establishing a
classroom management system, controlling disruptive behavior, and
responding to defiant students. Their self-efficacy in classroom management
is reflected in discipline, maintaining regular activities, firmness, and
consistency. Controlling disruptive behavior is evidenced by using repetition
in questioning. For responding defiant students, teachers give direct warnings
or sending warnings letter. 2) English teachers’ self-efficacy for student
engagement at MTs TI Al-Madani Pontianak includes four aspects:
motivating students who have low interest, improving student’s
comprehension that fail to understand teacher’s explanation, getting through
to the most difficult students, and helping students to value learning. Teachers
show self-efficacy through strategies like collaborative learning, motivation,
personal approaches, and verbal warnings, as well as giving appreciation and
additional assignments in these areas. 3) English teachers’ self-efficacy for
instructional strategies at MTs TI Al-Madani Pontianak includes three
aspects: using a variety of assessment strategies, implementing alternative
strategies, and adjusting level for individual student. Teachers show self
efficacy by using formative and summative assessments that refers to
affective, cognitive, and psychomotor. They also utilize technology-based
learning as an alternative strategy and adapt their teaching by simplifying
language and using evaluation results adapt students' needs in learning. |
