Assessing School Readiness in Early Childhood: A Multidimensional Framework for Elementary School Age-Exemption Decisions
Handini, Agus
The exception of the age limit for elementary school entry requires a basis for decisions that are
able to distinguish chronological age from child developmental readiness, while regulations have
not operationalized in detail the psychological readiness construct, assessment standards, and
professional authority. This study aims to analyze the constructs of psychological readiness,
relevant assessment approaches, and the implications of psychologists' authority in
recommending age exemptions. The research uses a qualitative literature review with a
conceptual-juridical approach. The data is sourced from scientific articles, regulations,
professional organization documents, and academic books that are thematically analyzed
through three themes: psychological readiness constructs, assessment capacity and limitations,
and psychologist authority. The results of the synthesis show that psychic readiness is a
multidimensional profile that includes cognitive-language, social-emotional, self-regulation and
executive function, motor, independence, and approaches to learning. Assessments need to be
multi-methodical, multi-informant, and contextual, with psychologists integrating and
interpreting evidence professionally. The research produces a conceptual framework that places
decision validity on construct suitability, assessment quality, professional competence, evidence
integration, and procedural accountability. Practically, operational guidelines regarding
psychological readiness, clarity on the division of roles between psychologists and educators, as
well as referral mechanisms and transitional support are needed so that age exclusion does not
stop at administrative decisions, but remains oriented to the best interests and readiness of child
development.

Intergenerational communication is a critical element in maintaining harmony
and social resilience within Muslim families, particularly when navigating
shifting values, rapid technological developments, and broader social changes.
Age stereotypes often influence family interaction patterns, presenting the
potential to either reinforce hierarchies or foster space for intergenerational
dialogue. This study adopted a qualitative case study design, involving 16
participants from eight intergenerational Muslim families in Pontianak City
selected via purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth
interviews, participant observation, focus group discussions (FGDs), and
documentation.
Thematic analysis—incorporating systematic coding,
categorization, and contextual interpretation—was employed, with validity
secured through source and method triangulation. The findings indicate that
while age stereotypes significantly shape intergenerational communication
dynamics, they remain fluid and negotiable. Many families experienced a shift
from authoritarian communication patterns toward dialogical and adaptive
frameworks. Concurrently, digital technology serves an ambivalent role, acting
both as a source of meaning mismatches and as a collaborative platform that
bridges generational divides. Local cultural values and Islamic teachings
function as essential moral anchors, strengthening emotional cohesion and
communication ethics. The implications of this study suggest that strengthening
family resilience requires a shift toward dialogic literacy and the integration of
religious values to effectively mitigate digital divides and sustain emotional
cohesion in modern urban Muslim households.

Although wudhu is traditionally recognized for its spiritual purity, its
empirical viability as a structured psychological intervention for anger control
remains largely understudied. This research bridges this gap by investigating
how this ritual practice functions as an effective emotional regulation tool.
This study aimed to examine whether performing wudhu significantly reduces
anger levels among university student. Additionally, there is a second
objective, which is to obtain an overview of the decrease in anger that occurs
in students. The design used is an experiment with a one-group pretest
posttest design. The sampling method used purposive sampling, which has
specific characteristics. The sample criteria were students aged 19-21 years,
five female, with anger emotions that were difficult to control based on the
results of screening interviews, and willing to participate in the training until
completion. The intervention was conducted across three distinct meetings
with a structured timeline for each session, spanning from morning to
afternoon schedules. This study involved five subjects who participated in the
entire psychological intervention and evaluation process. The measuring
instrument used was an anger emotion scale created by Diwanti (2022) with
a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.928. Additionally, there was qualitative data
processing in the form of observation of the implementation and subjects.
Quantitative data analysis used a paired sample t-test, which produced a
significance value of 0.005 (p < 0.05). Both quantitative and qualitative data
processing showed a significant difference in the level of anger before and
after the implementation of wudhu.

Integrative Model of Guidance and Counseling Services in Islamic Boarding Schools Based on Religious and Applied Psychology: Conceptual Analysis
Handini, Agus; Adiansyah, Adiansyah
Guidance and counseling services in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) face challenges in responding to
the complexity of students' psychological problems because religious approaches and applied psychology
are generally still being developed in a partial manner so that there is no conceptual model that integrates
the two systematically. This study aims to formulate an integrative model of pesantren guidance and
counseling services based on religious approaches and applied psychology through conceptual analysis.
The research uses a literature study method with an integrative conceptual analysis approach to 16 research
articles published in the 2020–2025 period and systematically selected based on the PRISMA 2020
guidelines. The results of the research produced an integrative model that combines Islamic philosophical
foundations, evidence-based psychological principles, service components, implementing actors, pesantren
cultural context, change mechanisms, and service outputs in one complete conceptual framework. This
model places religious values as a philosophical foundation, while applied psychology serves as a scientific
foundation in assessment, intervention, and service evaluation so as to support the spiritual, psychological,
social, academic, and character development of students holistically. Thus, the resulting model makes a
theoretical contribution to the scientific development of Islamic guidance and counseling as well as a
conceptual reference for the development of pesantren guidance and counseling services that are
professional, contextual, scientifically tested, and still rooted in Islamic values.
